Movie day

Savannah and I watched Ice Age 3D today. It was cute, fun and there were good chases, "how will we get out of this" character moments, and adult humor. I'm not talking about humor for adults, but adult humor. More than once I cringed...not laughed, but cringed. I am glad Savannah was not old enough to "get it", although in this day and age, it won't be long. There was a transexual reference, "coming out" joke, and a character trying to milk a bull, only to get kicked far and away. Gross. Just because I am older does not mean I find this stuff funny. Call me old-fashioned...I dare you...I implore you.

Summer Fun

Savannah enjoyed playing with her school mates the last day of pre-school.

Last weekend, Savannah and I went to her friend Christian's birthday party at Heritage Park. I love this place. Apparently, Savannah does too.

Fun with Mom...

Savannah and I went to see "Up" one day after mom's work. We went to Jordan Landing. After the movie, we had ice cream and walked around the fountain. I noticed a little bird hiding in the sculpture, trying to stay dry.
As you can see, it was a lovely, sunny day. If only we could have a series of dry days...

Here is Savannah sitting next to mom (always behind the camara, never in front of it). We were riding on a ferris wheel put together by a traveling carnival crew. I try not to think about how many times these things are taken apart and put together...

Savannah ran into a neighbor friend. The two are seen enjoying a ride much closer to the ground...

Latest trip to St. George

The Historic District of St. George has this fun little area we happened upon last time we were there. Savannah LOVED this. The pictures say it all.

Unfortunately, ever since we returned from this sunny haven, it has rained almost every day...Mr Blue Sky comes to mind...

Baseball season

Each week the game gets more exciting and enjoyable as Little Miss is learning how fun T-ball can be. Daddy and Little Miss are going to a baseball game tonight...we'll see how she likes it!

I *heart* Star Trek

It all started when I decided to watch a re-run episode of Star Trek TNG. Loved this series.
And now I love, love, love the latest Star Trek. Live long and prosper...do I hear a sequel on the horizon?

Saturday activities

Savannah in her midget-sandbox. That didn't stop her from playing in it...for 2 hours! This kid loves dirt.

Earlier in the day, Savannah played a Turtles' game. When her team is in the out-field, she sqats and picks grass. She doesn't care about the game. However, when her team is up to bat, the kid can hit the ball. I caught her ball mid-air in the hit...what a cell-phone camara! Once she hit the ball, it took some encouraging for her to run to first base. That night Dad and Mom went to see "Star Trek" while "Little Miss" hung out w/ grandma and grandpa Stocking. Jon and I loved the movie so much, we are going to see it again...on IMAX. Fun day!

Happy 4rth Birthday Savannah!

Making a wish on the Dora Cake.

Dora birthday!

Legos...cool.

And of course, t-ball.
This year we had a family birthday. Since her t-ball game was rained out, we went out to IHOP and had a big breakfast with Grandpa Jerry, Grandpa Dennis and Grandma Gloria. Grandpa Jerry had to go to work, so the rest of us went to our house, opened gifts and sang "Happy Birthday" as Savannah made a wish and blew out the candles on her cake. Another round of "Happy Birthday" was sung after Grandpa Jim arrived. At the restaurant earlier, Savannah made sure the workers knew it was her birthday...so of course they sang "Happy Birthday" to her. The day before, Grandpa Jerry and Grandma Linda took her to the Kangaroo Zoo for a day of fun. Despite the weather, it was a fun time for all. Savannah has aknowledged that she has three grandpas and had to ask, "How did that happen?" First it starts with questions like this, and then in the middle of nowhere, come the deep and existential lines of questions...I'm not ready!

Savannah's first game with the Turtles

Savannah is up to bat.
In the game...

Pre-game practice with fellow team-mate. Savannah #2!

Throwing the ball.
It was quite cold and windy that day, although the pics do not reflect it. This game was two weeks ago. The last scheduled game was rained out...if only the weather would cooperate! Despite the cold weather, Savannah's dad and I enjoyed watching the game.

St George trip last week...

Our family had a blast in St George last week. We rode on this side by side on nearby trails. We went swimming, hung out, soaked up the sun, ate, read, slept and had no formal plans...I loved it! Below is a picture of Savannah with her new goggles.

Here is the area where we rode on the side by side. This was west of where we stayed.

Here is little miss in her new bathing suit. It is size 4, but she is little...

Here is little miss and "hippo girl"

It was hard to get her out of the water once she was in.

Same with this guy! He is wearing a t-shirt because he got a sunburn the day prior.
I actually did go swimming myself...in a bathing suit. I was too smart to let anyone take photos of me and my whiteness.

Easter egg hunt and making cookies

The cookies on the left are not pink, they are burnt. These also make great roof-tiles. Don't worry neighbors, we won't dump these on your doorstep. Easter should not be remembered for cracked teeth. Either way, after a cold bitter morning at the cut-throat egg hunt, it was fun to warm up inside and make cookies with Savannah, despite the result...for more on the egg hunt, scroll down.

The day before easter has indeed been busy at the Jenkins home. This morning the city held their annual Easter Egg dash-cut throat-grab my egg and you die-hunt. Needless to say, we survived without any broken bones or pulled hair from disgruntled parents.

Grocery Day at Pre-school

These are a little late. I've been busy...

Savannah and her pre-school class went to the grocery store. Big deal, right? Like she's never been there before with mom? Wrong. These lucky little tykes went behind the scenes, or behind the cold milk counters, into the refrigerated areas to see how milk is stocked. They also went to see where the meat is cut and put into a machine that magically wraps and stamps it. They also had a class photo taken and went behind the scenes to see the picture developed right then and there. To top it off, they each got a balloon, a cookie from the bakery, and a bag of fruit...now that's what I call a trip to the grocery store!

Umm, is it okay to laugh?

"Three global warming researchers stranded in the North Pole by cold weather were holding out hope Wednesday as a fourth plane set off in an attempt deliver them supplies."

I'm sorry, but the irony...

The Awe...The Fascination...

All I have to do is tell her "it's garbage day" and she runs to the front door or to her bedroom window. With awe and fascination she is excited to see the workings of a system none of us could live without...
Little Miss loves Waste Management.

Mamma's Little Mermaid

So, my little creative one has found a way to make her skinny little self a mermaid. She puts her legs into one leg of her pj's and wha-laa. I tend to like it when she is in this outfit...shame on me but it's because she is a lot less mobile. I can run upstairs, do laundry, blog, etc and can hear her hobbling around downstairs, or staying put watching princess movies.

Moving day...

What was today for Savannah? Moving day. Meanwhile, her dad was taking a shower. She single handedly lifted her mattress off her bed and out of her castle-tent. Stripping the mattress, she lifted it up against the wall, trying to reach something off of the shelf way above her head. Luckily, she didn't reach what she wanted. Now you must realize, this kid weighs barely 33 lbs, maybe 34. She is wirey, but extremely strong. I remember once when she was sick and dehydrated and took her to the emergency room. It took THREE grown adults to hold her down to get an I.V. in her. This was months and months ago. Yeah, she can hold her own. "My pre-schooler is stronger than three grown nurses...so naaa naaa naaa..."

Flower girl

Here are pics of Savannah at her aunt Cher's and new uncle Sean's wedding. It was a fun, beautiful and successful evening. After the ceremony, there was dinner, cake cutting and a dance. Savannah kept up with the best of us, even with a terrible cold!

Christmas, 2008

Christmas was a 3 day celebration at our home. Christmas Eve was spent at my parents. Savannah got to open a gift that night. Christmas morning, Savannah opened gifts from Santa. Christmas afternoon was spent at Jon's mom's house opening still more gifts. To top it off, the day after Christmas, Savannah opened the last round of gifts at Jon's dad's house. Whew.

Yogurt Face

Savannah wanted some yogurt. I put her in her chair with a spoon and Dora yogurt, and went upstairs for a few minutes...she was hungry, and asked for yogurt. So, I go downstairs after TEN minutes because it is quiet...this is usually a sign of trouble. Half of her yogurt was eaten. The other half? Well, see for yourself.

Sunday is no day of rest...

Daddy worked today. Mom was all on her own at church with Savannah. In our church, we meet for three hours. The first hour, all families are together for Sacrament. During this hour, little miss had to be taken out for a time out. After that, mom did some interesting entertaining so no further time-outs were necessary. Hour two, Savannah is almost ready for primary, so in preparation, there are some senior nursery classes. More of a classroom feel, less of a nursery free for all. During the second hour, I was beckoned. A teacher was holding Savannah...she stated she wasn't quick enough to catch little miss as she ran out the door. At that point, I gave little miss two choices...go back to class, be good and eat snacks or go home and spend time in her room alone. She chose the class. During the last hour, I had no interruptions. However, as I went to pick her up from her class, I was told the class went into the primary room for some games with older primary kids. Only reverant kids were chosen to help out. Little miss was not, and still wanted her turn. She had an "episode". Bless those teachers! And heaven help little miss.

The Polar Express Party

Savannah was invited to a wonderful party. Everyone made candy train ornaments, ate popcorn, cookies, drank hot chocolate, and watched The Polar Express. After the movie, all the little ladies sang carols and danced. They ran around whispering in each other's ear, "Merry Christmas". Someone important must have been listening, because the "Big Man in Red" came calling. All the girls had a turn sitting on his lap and told him what they want for Christmas. Savannah said she wanted a big gift. (Yes! Nothing specific. Perfect.) Each child was given a jingle bell. Savannah's was from Santa's reindeer, Dancer. Only those who believe in Christmas heard the sound the bell makes. We are all believers!

Here I am at the ornament exchange. It was awesome. I have dozens of cookies, and 12 new ornaments. This is a tradition I would love to continue. Thanks Patti for throwing this cool event!

Savannah and the "other" Santa

Talk about fate, talk about luck. Little Miss was lucky enough to see Santa twice in one week...and no, she is not done yet. This kid will see him one last time with her pre-school class. To think I would only see "The Big Guy in Red" once a year through childhood, and here she is seeing him three times in one month. Coming soon...Savannah's third and final gift request for 2008.

Savannah and Santa

On the Merry-go-round
Telling Santa what she wants for Christmas.
It is fun for me now that she is not scared of Santa, had a conversation with him and is looking forward to leaving him cookies and milk on Christmas Eve.
Another fun little tid-bit. Nothing makes a mom feel better than handing their child lunch and having that child say, "Mom, you are amazing!"

Twilight Prom Night

Here are pics from the "Prom" prior to the movie...and what a movie! Loved it...looking forward to seeing it again, this time with my husband.
Some even better news I just read...they are going to make "New Moon" into a movie. Now, we've got a SAGA. Yes!

4 days and counting...

Holy cow...I am such a geek. An almost 40 year old woman is going to the "Twilight Prom". No, I WILL NOT dress in a prom gown. I will wear all black--I still have my dignity. There will be red-colored chocolate flowing with sparkling strawberries. There will be gifts, give-aways and good times to be had with my gal-pals. But the best part about this prom thingy, is the midnight showing of the long awaited Vampire love story.

Savannah was the 100th student to sign up for her dance classes at her dance studio. She was given a gift pack that included the following outfit.

Halloween Night Trick or Treating

Halloween night

Savannah was a pirate princess. Along the way, she would stop and chat with the costumed children behind the doors of some homes, met up with Snow White and ran into some of her costumed friends. Grandma Linda and Grandpa Jerry came to help her go from house to house. She was a pirate with a fair amount of loot by the end of the evening. Unlike a pirate, mommy won't let her plunder it all away too quickly.

Pumpkin Patch

Here are pics from Savannah's field trip to the pumkin patch with Ms. Jenny and her classmates.

St George and Las Vegas

WE'RE BACK!

The Phantom experience

JON: MY HERO!

Below are pics of our time in St. George and one afternoon and evening in Vegas. All was relaxing, wonderful, you name it. Jon and I got discounted passes to the "Phantom of the Opera" at the Venetian. Here is the glitch. Our hosts (Grandpa Jim and Nadine) agreed to come to Vegas with us--so that Savannah could see the sights. We would go to the M & M factory and Cesar's Palace (FAO Swartz toys) and the Cheesecake Factory. We walked from Cesar's Palace to M & M. That took over an hour. Jon and I took Savannah to the M & M 3-D show...at one point, she got scared and said, "I want to get out!" There was a part with a furnace that had a mean face. :( After that, we met up with our shopping hosts and walked all the way back to Cesar's. Jon and I had time for a very quick meal with the rest at The Cheesecake Factory and then we literally ate and ran to the Venetian. (We had to be there an hour before the show to get our tix). Grandpa Jim and Nadine would have to take Savannah to the toy store without us. It took every ounce of Jon's and my energy to run to the theatre...once there, we needed something that I left in the diaper bag...with Savannah. I almost lost it...Jon told me to stay at the theatre. With sweat already dripping down his brow and shin splints, he ran back to Cesar's on a full stomach to try and catch Grandpa, Nadine and Savannah before they headed back to St. George. (We took separate cars for this reason). 20 minutes (and a lifetime) later, he showed up...with the right stuff! We got in. Note to all: If you buy discount tix before any show in Vegas, a receipt IS NOT ENOUGH. Do NOT forget the vouchers.
